Greek Christmas Cookies

 Ingredients List

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks) at room temperature*
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2-3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • .5 teaspoon brandy (can sub for whiskey or orange juice)

 Directions

1. Place butter in bowl and whip until light and fluffy, about 15min.

2. Add egg yolk and blend with whipped butter.

3. Add in ΒΌ cup powdered sugar, vanilla and brandy. Mix well.

4. Add flour and knead dough until firm - not hard. Use more flour as needed.

5. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

6. Break off small pieces of dough, form into small ball (or whatever size you like).

7. Pinch the center of the dough ball to flatten a bit and place on baking sheet.

8. Repeat until all dough it used.

9. Bake in preheated oven at 350F for 20min, or until cookies are golden brown.

10. While cookies are baking, cover serving plates with powdered sugar.

11. Remove cookies from oven and place on top of sugar covered plates.

12. Sprinkle remaining powdered sugar over them - the more the better!

13. Let cool and serve.

14. Makes about 20 cookies.
