Pulikkaachal (Tamarind Chutney)

 Ingredients List

  • An orange-sized tamarind
  • -ball
  • 1 tb Jaggery; powdered
  • 1 ts Turmeric
  • 12 Green chiles; chopped
  • 4 Sprigs curry leaves; chopped
  • 1 4" piece ginger; chopped
  • Salt; to taste
  • ---For Seasoning---
  • 1 ts Black mustard seeds
  • 1 ts Black gram dal
  • 3 Red chiles; broken
  • 4 tb Oil

 Directions

Extract juice from tamarind. Heat oil and add mustard seeds, black gram dal
and red chilies. When brown, add green chilies and curry leaves and fry for
a couple of minutes. Now add tamarind juice, jaggery, turmeric, salt and
ginger. Cook till mixture is thick.
