White Texas Sheet Cake Recipe

 Ingredients List

  • ~~~~~ Cake:~~~~~
  • 2 sticks butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2¼ cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • optional: sprinkles or chopped nuts for topping
  • ~~~~~ Frosting:~~~~~
  • 2 sticks butter
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 4½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

 Directions

Cake:
1. Put 2 sticks of butter and water in a large saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat until butter is melted.
2. Remove from heat and using a whisk stir in the sugar, flour, baking soda, salt until smooth.
3. Add the sour cream, eggs and vanilla and continue whisking until smooth.
4. Pour into a greased 11 x 17 sheet cake pan.
5. Bake at 375º for 20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
6. Remove cake from the oven and immediately begin making the frosting...no need for the cake to cool, isn't that wonderful!

Frosting:
7. Put 2 sticks of butter and milk in a large saucepan and stir constantly over medium heat until butter is melted.
8. Remove from heat and stir in the powdered sugar, salt and vanilla until smooth.
9. Pour over cake and spread.
10. Add sprinkles or chopped nuts if desired.
