Ingredients List
- 3 cups of Whole Wheat Flour + more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda
- 1 teaspoon of Sea Salt
- 1 tablespoon of Sugar
- 2 teaspoon of Caraway Seeds
- ¼ cup of Butter, cubed into small pieces and chilled
- 1 large Egg, beaten
- 1½ cup of Buttermilk
Directions
In a large bowl combine the whole wheat flour, baking soda, salt and the caraway seeds. Mix well.
Add the cubes of chilled butter and with a fork or a pastry blender, mix it with the flour, till the flour looks like coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center and add the egg, followed by the buttermilk.
Mix it with a spatula until everything is combined. It will be a very sticky dough.
With well-floured hand, work the dough into a ball. Turn the dough into a well-floured surface and lightly knead it into a rough 6 inch ball. Do not over knead.
Using a serrated knife, score an X on the top of the dough.
Very carefully transfer the dough into a well-greased air fryer basket.
Air fry at 350F for 30 minutes. Insert a toothpick in the center and if it comes out dry, it is done.
If it comes out wet, to continue to bake, using 5 minute intervals.
When fully baked remove from the fryer and place on wire rack to cool.
Slice and serve with butter or jam or with hearty soup and stews.
