Ingredients List
- 1 pint of your favorite ice cream
- 1 loaf of fresh, soft, white bread (when it is easily able to be sculpted)
- 6 to 8 cups of canola oil for frying and a deep-fry thermometer
- Instant pancake mix -- the type where you just add water.
Directions
Put a large sheet pan in the freezer for at least an hour, but it is much better if it is overnight
Using a scoop, scoop out 4 to 6 standard-sized balls
Place the scoops on the sheet pan and return it to the freezer for at least two hours
Next, taking two piece of white bread per serving, slice the cruses off the bread
Place the scoop between the piece of bread and then flatten them out with a rolling pin
Hurrying slowly (it can be done, it just means you are concentrating) so you don't end up with a soggy mess, form it back into balls, like you are making a snowball
Once you have completely covered the scoop, back into the freezer it goes for a longer period. It must be at least brick hard before you move on
Get the pancake mix ready by adding water and if the ice cream balls are ready, drop them into the mix so they are completely covered
Take a medium sauce pan and add 6 to 8 cups of canola oil or about 3 inches. Use the frying thermometer to make sure it gets to 365 degrees.
Assuming everything is one schedule (you can always put the melty ones back into the freezer again)
Now, with the oil at the right temperature, be sure to lay the balls into the oil -- making sure that they are being put in away from you, toward the back of the stove
As it fries, turn the balls so they get the same golden color on all sides and when they are done, drain them on paper towels
Provide several types of garnish -- caramel, fudge, strawberry, coffee -- and serve.
That proves you can deep fry anything, including ice cream and enjoy it.
