Chocolate Cherry Sugar Cookies

  • Cherry Cookie dough:
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1- 10 oz. jar marashino cherries (juice included)
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 5 cups flour + more for rolling
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 T. milk
  • about 1 cup powdered sugar
  • Chocolate Sugar Cookie dough:
  • 1½ cup butter at room temperature
  • 1½ cup powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • â…” cup dutch process cocoa powder
  • 1½ cup flour
  • pinch salt


Mix each dough separately, and chill.
Roll a section of each dough to about ½” thickness. Cut large hearts. Place hearts on baking sheet.
Use a small cutter to cut small hearts out of the large hearts, and remove, leaving a hole in the center of each large heart.
Place pink small hearts in the holes of the brown large hearts, and brown small hearts in the holes of the pink large hearts, making sure the edges touch.
Bake at 350 degrees, for 8-12 minutes.
