Category: Potatoes, Main Dish, Side Dishes, Vegetarian, Vegetables

 Ingredients List

  • 1 1/2 pounds Idaho potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Gruyere
  • 1 cup heavy cream or half and half
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 1 quart casserole dish.
2. Place a layer of the potatoes into bottom of the prepared casserole dish and sprinkle some of the cheeses over them. Continue layering potatoes and topping them with the cheeses until you've used them all.
3. In a medium-size saucepan, whisk the heavy cream with the butter and salt and pepper on low heat. Once heated, pour the mixture over the potatoes.
4. Bake for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, or until the potatoes are tender and golden brown on top.
5. Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
