Homemade Creamy Mashed Potatoes Recipe

Category: Vegetables, Potatoes, Side Dishes

 Ingredients List

  • 3 russet potatoes (approx. 1 1/2 - 2 pounds)
  • 2 tablespoons kosher salt
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2.5 ounces grated Gruyère, Parmesan, Cheddar cheese or mix

 Directions

1. Peel and dice potatoes, making sure all are relatively the same size. Put potatoes into a saucepan. Add 2 tbsp salt. Add water until potatoes are covered. Bring to boil, then reduce heat to maintain a rolling boil. Cook until potatoes fall apart when poked with a fork (approximately 20-30 minutes).

2. Heat the heavy cream and the garlic in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it's simmering. Remove from heat and set aside.

3. Remove the potatoes from the heat and drain off the water. Put hot potatoes into a bowl. Mash and add the garlic-cream mixture and cheese; stir to combine.

4. Let stand for 5 minutes so that mixture thickens. Serve warm.
