Mock Crackling Bread

 Ingredients List

  • 1 c Yellow cornmeal
  • 1 c All purpose flour
  • 1 tb Sugar
  • 1 tb Plus 1 ts baking powder
  • 1/2 ts Salt
  • 1 1/2 c Milk
  • 1/4 c Shortening, melted
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 10 Slice bacon, cooked/crumbled
  • Creole Celery Sauce


Combine first six ingredients, add milk, shortening, and egg mixing well.
Stir in bacon. Pour batter into a well greased 8 inch square pan. Bake at
425 degrees for 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cut into squares, and
serve with Creole Celery Sauce.
