Mom's Awesome Cheesy Potatoes

 Ingredients List

  • 4 to 5 large potatoes, peeled and cut into eighths
  • 1 large onion, cut into eighths
  • 8 ounces cheese loaf (Velveeta), cut into 2 inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream*
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder


1. Place the potatoes and onion in a large saucepan; cover with water and heat to boiling over medium-high heat. Continue cooking until the potatoes are tender. Drain and pour into a 2 quart casserole dish.

2. In a small saucepan, combine cheese, butter or margarine, milk, cream, salt, pepper and garlic powder. Place saucepan over medium-low heat and stir constantly until cheese is melted and smooth. Pour cheese mixture over potatoes and onions in casserole dish. Stir to blend well.

3. Bake in 350 degree F oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until bubbly
