Pizza Cone

  • Recipe Submitted by on

 Ingredients List

  • Metal cone molds or paper cone cups
  • Aluminum foil
  • Prepared pizza dough
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet
  • Cone holder
  • Pizza sauce
  • Pizza toppings, such as cooked sausage or cut-up vegetables
  • Shredded cheese

 Directions

Baking Pizza Cones
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Wrap paper cone cups completely in foil, inside and out, if you don’t have a metal cone mold.
Roll out prepared pizza dough, homemade or store-bought, onto a clean work surface to a 1/8-inch thickness. Use any type of pizza dough you prefer, such as plain, whole wheat or gluten-free.
Cut the dough into 5-inch squares for average-sized paper cone cups. If you are using a cone mold of a different size, cut the squares to be roughly the same length all around as the length of the mold.
Place the foil-covered cone molds at one corner of each square and carefully roll toward the opposite corner, so that the dough wraps around the mold completely. Press the edges gently against the cone to seal, making sure the tip is completely sealed.
Set the wrapped dough cones on a baking sheet with the open end down. Place them in the oven and bake for eight to 10 minutes, or until the dough cones are golden brown.
Allow the dough cones to cool to the touch, then carefully remove the molds.

Pizza Cone Filling
Place the cones in heat-proof cone holders. If you don’t have cone holders that can go into the oven, lay the cones on their side. Expect some of the toppings to spill out.
Spoon pizza sauce into the cone, filling it no more than halfway. Use any type of pizza or tomato sauce, such as regular marinara or a hearty meat sauce.
Add a handful of meat or vegetables toppings, such as cooked sausage chunks, diced ham, pepperoni, broccoli chunks and diced onions.
Fill the cone the rest of the way with mozzarella cheese, or a combination of shredded cheeses that melt well, such as cheddar, Monterey Jack or queso.
Top the cheese with a sprinkling of toppings, such as mini pepperonis, chopped mushrooms, peppers, and olives.
Place the cones, still in the cone holders, in the oven for five to 10 minutes, until the cheese melts and starts to turn slightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and serve the pizza cones hot.
