Red Velvet Cinnamon Rolls

  • Cinnamon Rolls
  • 5 to 6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 package red velvet cake mix (regular size)
  • 2 packages (1/4 ounce each) quick-rise yeast
  • 2-1/2 cups warm water
  • 6 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1-1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Cream Cheese Frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 (8-oz) package cream cheese, softened
  • 4 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract


Cinnamon Rolls
In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, combine 4 cups flour, cake mix, yeast and warm water. Mix until smooth. Adding enough of the remaining flour to form a soft dough. Mix an additional 3 to 5 minutes on low speed.
Cover dough and let rise for 45 minutes, until doubled in size.
Punch down dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide in half.
Roll each portion into a 14x10-in. rectangle. Brush with butter; sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon.
Roll up jelly-roll style, starting with a long side. Cut each roll into 12 slices; place cut side down in two greased 9x13-inch baking pans.
Cover and let rise until almost doubled, about 20 minutes.
Bake at 400° for 15 to 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 20 minutes.

Cream Cheese Frosting
Beat softened butter and cream cheese until well blended. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat until creamy.
Spread frosting over warm rolls.
