Requested Homemade Macaroni and Cheese Recipe

 Ingredients List

  • 1. 1 pkg large elbow macaroni 12 oz
  • 2. 6-8 c water, boiling (salted)
  • 3. 1/2 stick butter
  • 4. 2 Tbsp all purpose flour
  • 5. 5-5 1/2 c milk or combination of milk and evaporated milk
  • 6. 2/3 c velveeta or american cheese
  • 7. 2 c cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 8. 1/4 c parmesan cheese, grated
  • 9. 1/4 c panko bread crumbs
  • 10. 1/4 tsp paprika
  • 11. 1/2 tsp salt
  • 12. 1/2 tsp coarse black pepper
  • 13. 1/2 c cheddar cheese, shredded reserved for top


1. Cook macaroni in boiling salted water 4 minutes. Drain and rinse. Set aside.
2. In large saucepan or dutch oven, melt butter over low heat, being careful not to burn. Add flour. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Do not brown.
3. Add milk slowly, stirring constantly. Stir in cheeses; cook over low heat until cheese is mostly melted .
4. Add salt, pepper, paprika and bread crumbs. Add macaroni. Mix together gently.
5. Pour into extra large buttered (or cooking spray) baking or casserole dish.
6. Bake uncovered at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Remove from oven then add 1/2 cup shredded cheese on top. Sprinkle with additional paprika. Bake until lightly browned on top. About 15 minutes.
7. NOTE: Use a large deep size deep casserole dish or divide into two casserole dishes as this recipe makes a lot.
