Slow Cooker Spiced Pear Butter
- Recipe Submitted by maryjosh on 08/08/2018
Ingredients List
- 10 Large Bartlett (or any variety you like) pears, ripe but not mushy, peeled, cored and cut into 1" pieces
- 1/4 cup of dark (or light) brown sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 TBS fresh minced ginger
- 1/4 tsp allspice
- 1/4 tsp nutmeg
- 1-2 TBS lemon juice
- pinch of salt
Directions
Combine all ingredients in crock of slow cooker. Stir. Cover and cook on HIGH for 4-5 hours, or until the pears are soft and break apart easily with fork.
Remove cover and puree with immersion blender until smooth.
Continue to cook on HIGH with cover off for another 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally, or until a nice thick, deep colored butter. If the butter starts to foam too much from boiling, you can add a tsp of unsalted butter to counteract the foaming. (Just like when you make jam)
Ladle into clean jars or plastic containers and allow to cool slightly. Add lids and refrigerate until ready to use.
