Wontons for valentines

 Ingredients List

  • Wonton wrappers:
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 − 1/2 cup water
  • oil to deep fry
  • For the Cranberry n cherry sauce:
  • 1/4 cup cranberries fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 cup cherries - pitted : fresh or frozen
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract or 1/2 tsp cinnamon ( I used cinnamon )
  • 2 tbsp orange juice or a bit more
  • Filling
  • 1 banana finely diced
  • 1/2 cup pineapple diced
  • 3 tbsp desiccated coconut
  • mix and keep aside


Wonton wrappers:
Sift the flour, mix the egg, add the salt, pour the water and form a soft pliable dough. Make sure it sits for 30- 60 minutes, before you start rolling, so all the gluten is stable and working well.
For the Cranberry n cherry sauce:
In a sauce pan mix all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Let it cool, blend to a smooth consistency, not too watery. You could also make my spicy cranberry sauce
You could make the wontons ahead of time and cover it with a muslin wet cloth. Don”™t keep the filled ones for too long as it might become soggy, I kept mine for about a couple of hours and it was fine. Fry just before serving.
Roll out the dough as thin as you can. or if you have a pasta maker, use the thinest setting, with help of a cutter, cut out the hearts, place the filling inside one heart and close with the other, seal the edges. Cover with damp cloth. when you have at least 6 −10 ready, heat the oil and fry them on medium flame, flame to high, it will not be crisp, flame too low and it will be soggy.
Sprinkle with powdered sugar and cinnamon powder mix. Serve with sauce when hot, with some vanilla ice cream (optional)
