Ingredients List
- Peeled, cored, and sliced apples (enough to half-fill a 9x9 baking dish)
- 2 tsp. vanilla (divided)
- 1 ½ cup sugar (divided)
- ½ tsp. cinnamon
- 2/3 cup butter, melted and cooled
- 1 egg
- 1 cup flour
- ¼ tsp. baking powder
- Pinch of salt
- ½ cup nutmeats (optional)
Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
2. Butter the bottom of a 9x9 baking dish. In the bottom of the prepared baking dish, put in enough apple slices so that the dish is half-full.
3. Sprinkle the apples with 1 tsp. of the vanilla. Then sprinkle ½ cup of the sugar and ½ tsp. of cinnamon evenly over the apples.
4. Combine the melted butter, 1 egg, and the remaining 1 tsp. of vanilla.
5. Add the remaining 1 cup sugar, the flour, baking powder, and salt -- mix together. Stir in nutmeats, if using.
6. Pour the batter evenly over the apple slices.
7. Bake for one hour at 350 degrees. Serve warm or at room temperature
