CINNAMON APPLE CHIPS
CINNAMON APPLE CHIPS
- Recipe Submitted by Kosher on 05/02/2014
Category: Apples, Lunch/Snacks
Ingredients List
- 2 apples (Braeburn, Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Jazz, Honeycrisp, etc)
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp sweetner (I used Stevia in the Raw)
Directions
You can make these without a mandolin slicer, but having one does make it a whoole lot easier! The key to good apple chips is how thin the slice is. Mandolins do all the work for you.. which is awesome. Also, peeling the apple or not peeling it is just based on preference- the skin will make it a little chewier. I peeled mine. I might not next time. Just do whatever feels right to you!
If you have a mandolin, set it to the second thinnest slice. Make sure you USE THE GUARD. I knew someone once (cough, cough) who nearly sliced their finger tip off (cough, cough) because she was sure that she could use it without the guard (cough, cough). Okay, okay, it was actually me! And seriously, that sucker is SHARP. I have the scar to prove it! So be smart. Directions are there for a reason ;)
If you don”™t have a mandolin, just use your knife and try to slice them as thinly as possible. And you be careful too!
You can use wax or parchment paper! Or a silicone mat if you're fancy like that.

Preheat your oven to 200. Line two cookie sheets and lay out the apples. Make sure none are overlapping, or they could cook unevenly.
At this point, the combined smell of warm cinnamon and fresh apple might be enough to drive you crazy

Mix together the cinnamon and sweetner of your choice, and sprinkle evenly on the apple slices. Turn ”˜em over and make sure you get the back too!
Bake for 1 hour, then flip the apples and bake for another hour and a half. When the timer sounds, turn the oven off and let the chips cool inside the oven for about 45 mins. The extra cool-off time will help the apple crisp up nicely!
These were AMAZING. Seriously. The hubs and I devoured them as soon as they came out of the oven. Hence, my earlier suggestion to make a big batch ;) These are most definitely going in my recipe vault.
P.S. Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days! They may lose some of the crunch- just depending on your oven, you might want to bake them an extra 5-10 min to ensure they stay crisp
